Orlando Bloom Has Rx for Next Role

Orlando Bloom is scrubbing up for 'The Good Doctor,' an independent drama that will start production in Los Angeles this week.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the film, described as a Hitchcockian thriller, centers on a frustrated doctor who needs a patient's positive reinforcement so badly that he tampers with her treatment to get her to stay at the hospital with him.

Lance Daly is directing a script by John Enbom ('Veronica Mars,' 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles') and Bloom is producing the film.

According to the Reporter, Michael Pena, Troy Garity, Courtney Ford, Taraji P. Henson, Rob Morrow and J.K. Simmons are in negotiations to co-star. Pena will play an orderly who discovers the doctor's budding relationship and blackmails him; Garity is a successful, self-assured doctor; and Ford is a woman who has eyes for Bloom.

Bloom's career has blossomed since his star-making turn in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series. He was at Sundance for Mark Ruffalo's "Sympathy for Delicious" and has wrapped production on "Main Street," a Southern drama penned by Horton Foote. Bloom also starred in the London West End production of "In Celebration."
